KT WIZ's homegrown starter Choi Min-joon (22) has resumed pitching training with the goal of returning this season.

The KT club said on the 22nd, “On the 17th, Choi resumed formal pitching training by throwing 20 balls in the bullpen at Iksan Stadium in Jeonbuk, and on the 21st, he threw 30 balls.” “He pitched mainly fastballs and did not measure his velocity,” the club said.

KT manager Lee Kang-cheol said ahead of a home game against the Kiwoom Heroes of the 2024 KBO at Katie Wiz Park in Suwon, “I think Choi Soon-joon has a strong will to return this season,” adding, “We're just waiting to see.”

“The later the better,” he said, adding, ”It would be great for the team if he comes back in mid-September.”

Choi has been focusing on his recovery and rehabilitation after undergoing elbow ligament reconstruction surgery in May last year, and has been pitching in the Futures League since late May.

However, on June 7, he felt pain in his elbow again after pitching against the Lotte Giants' second team in the Futures League.

A medical examination revealed a right elbow external flexor injury.

After halting all comeback plans, Lee rested for about two months before returning to the field earlier this month.

“Even if he returns next month, he won't be able to throw long innings,” Lee said, ”but it would be better for him to play in an official game to check his physical condition in preparation for next season.” 파워볼게임
